Save the Light features seven playable characters from the series, Steven, Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Connie, Greg and Peridot, with Lapis Lazuli to be added in a future content update, which has sadly never released until the new game "Unleash the Light" for Apple Arcade. The game has a "blend of real-time and turn-based combat", and more of a focus on exploration and puzzle-solving than its predecessor.
Players are able to explore Beach City and surrounding areas, and engage in battles with enemies. During battle, the players' actions, which include attacking and defending, will build up the star meter, which allows the characters to pull off more powerful moves. Steven visits Empire City with Greg and Pearl. Steven and Amethyst take a trip to Funland but run into trouble when their friend is too short to ride the rollercoasters.
Steven gets a new look into Lars' life. Steven and Connie get into a high-speed car race with their biggest foe. Steven settles a rivalry between restaurant owners. Kiki has nightmares and Steven intervenes. An old friend returns. Steven and Greg take Lapis on a boat trip out to sea and find themselves in dangerous water. Steven, Pearl and Connie go to the Great North to hunt down a corrupted gem. Steven And Amethyst compete against each other while training with Pearl.
Steven discovers something the Gems thought was lost to the past inside of Lion's mane. Steven and Amethyst visit some friends in the country but Amethyst isn't being herself.
Amethyst tries to exact revenge with a showdown in the Kindergarten. Steven and the Gems revisit the Moon Base. Steven gets marooned in his bubble. Steven and Peridot attempt to catch an elusive speedy corrupted Gem monster in the Beta Kindergarten. Steven and the Gems examine fusions. Steven visits the library with Connie and uncovers a long lost book.
Steven and Connie learn to focus better. Steven tells people's fortunes at Funland. Pearl, Steven and Amethyst go to a rock show.
Steven learns about Onion's secret group of friends. Greg tells Steven about their first winter together. A strange dream prompts Steven to search for answers. Steven and the Gems take off on a search and recovery mission. The Gems reach a space station that once belonged to Pink Diamond, and sneak in to rescue Greg, but in order to do so, they must play the roles they were made for, so as not to arouse suspicion. This proves easier said than done as the humans there are guided through a strictly scheduled and regimented life.
While Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond argue over their diverging ways of coping with Pink Diamond's death, Steven, Greg and the Crystal Gems attempt to escape the space station before they are discovered.
Connie tells Steven the story of how she, Peridot, and Lapis attempted to take the Crystal Gems' places as the protectors of Beach City while he was in space. Steven uses his room in the temple to create a simulated image of Rose Quartz in order to try to experience what it would be like to know his mother.
He ends up confronting her with his troubled feelings about her complex legacy and her choice to create him. Ronaldo decides to join the Crystal Gems. However, once Steven lets him join the team, Ronaldo's self-centered attitude begins to try Steven's patience.
When Amethyst quits wrestling at the abandoned warehouse, Steven continues doing so himself as Tiger Philanthropist. However, Steven soon begins to doubt the point of wrestling when the audience doesn't take to his new persona. However, Lapis Lazuli does not trust Navy's overly optimistic nature, knowing of her previous encounters with her.
Steven tries to search for secret messages Rose may have left him about his "magical destiny". Lion eventually leads him to a tape—but it's just an alternate version of the message from Rose he's already seen. Steven and Connie join Connie's father on a stake out. Steven, Lars and Sadie get invited to a party with the Cool Kids.
People disappearing from Beach City, and Steven tries to solve the mystery. Steven struggles to fix his mistakes. Steven and Lars are stuck inside Topaz and try to look for a way to escape.
After escaping from the Diamonds, Steven and Lars encounter and befriend the "off-colors", a group of "defective" Gems who live in hiding from Gem society. Lars defends them from security robots but is critically injured in the process.
After Steven brings Lars back to life with his healing powers, he discovers that Lars now shares the same powers as Lion. Steven helps Mayor Dewey run a difficult campaign. Greg and the Gems take Steven on vacation to help him relax. A magical, emotional, and by far entertaining adventure that is bound to please all fans of the t. The voice talents in the film shine greater than ever, taking the characters not only to completely other levels we have never seen before, but also truly encaptivating to believe it is so.
The animation is fantastic, and the film is full of all new songs that are bound to get stuck in your head. The film takes the approach of a musical rather than a standard animated film, which while the t. Watching it however, proved all my doubts wrong. The music in Steven Universe, both the show and the film, is truly the heart of what makes it so important, and that is never clearer than in this film.
As for my problems with it, the film does seem to drag a bit once the true plot starts, and at times can feel a little formulaic, but nothing overall to truly ruin the film. All in all, the film is everything Steven Universe fans can ask for, and is certainly a rewatchable treat for all of those who wanted it to be. My Rating: 9. This is something special. It has heart, and great characters, and all of the best aspects of the show. It is necessary to confront the warrior Rebecca Sugar from the Homeworld.
